Restore Lost Volume with a Cheek Filler Treatment

Dermal filler treatments are one of the best methods you can choose

to restore natural volume to your cheekbones.

Our dermal filler treatment is an exceptionally powerful non-surgical treatment that reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the skin while simultaneously restoring volume.  When performed properly, the injection of hyaluronic acid (HA) to the cheek area has the power to transform the face to have the younger, healthier shape and contour it once had. These results are virtually undetectable as the overlying skin adapts to the added definition to enhance the overall face shape and give it a more youthful appearance.

How do dermal fillers rejuvenate the face and skin?

The reason that the injection of hyaluronic acid fillers into the cheek and mid-face area can be so effective is because of how the face and skin age.

When we are young, we have a full, healthy layer of fat that lies below the skin and gives the face its youthful fullness. As we age, however, we lose volume — so this fatty layer diminishes, leading to the appearance of deflation or descent in the cheek and face. This process typically begins in the early 30s and accelerates throughout the 40s and into the 50s.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar in the body, so using HA fillers essentially restores volume using a natural substance that the body already has. Restoring this volume loss with dermal fillers can be one of the most gratifying procedures to perform in aesthetic practice — but like all cosmetic procedures, the experience and aesthetic judgement of the doctor are key to achieving an attractive and natural-looking result.

How do dermal filler treatments work for the cheek area?

The goal is never to change the face; the goal is to restore and enhance it.

We used to think of the fatty layer beneath the skin as a single unit, but new research has enlightened our understanding of the anatomy of facial fat. These new findings show us that the fat actually exists in a number of distinct compartments under the skin, each separated by a fibrous membrane that is ageing in a different way.

Therefore, restoring volume and definition to the face requires much more than simply fattening the face up diffusely. To add volume and add definition that achieves the most natural look, the plumping effect of the dermal filler treatment will need to be executed at key positions in the cheek relating to the underlying anatomy and cheekbones.

Top Tips for Cheek Augmentation

For cheek augmentation, I virtually always use Juvéderm™ VOLUMA™ because it is a long-lasting product that is safe and effective on the skin. Most patients will get a good result that lasts a year, while it will last even longer than this for other patients. Various other products proclaim to offer longer-lasting results, but I feel very passionately about not using these semi-permanent fillers to restore volume. The safety profile and reversibility of VOLUMA — like all hyaluronic acid products — make it my first choice. Some of our products also include a local anaesthetic in the injections. However, there is always the option of using a topic anaesthetic on the skin for those who do not want local anaesthetic. Most clients at the earlier stages of ageing will require a total of 3ml of VOLUMA for a satisfactory correction. Some people with more advanced ageing and volume loss may need higher volumes.

We can create a dermal filler treatment plan for you, whether you want to add volume, rejuvenate the skin, define and enhance your cheekbones and contour, or just look a bit younger. We will discuss all of the details with you when you come in for your first consultation for a cheek filler treatment — from your expectations and needs to how one of our most popular treatments can be used to achieve that.
